Department of Urdu


To develop and provide literary scholars, Institute of Southern Punjab established The Department of Urdu in 2015. The department provides thorough knowledge and understanding of Urdu language and literature. The department's first batch had its classes started in the year 2016. In 2018 department of Urdu successfully produced its first a batch of eight literary M.Phil scholars.  The programs offered by the department are structured on team based learning, class presentations, educational seminars and research work. These methods of study ensure and prepare students for future challenges and professional life.

MA Urdu Master of Arts in Urdu 2 Years Graduation Or equivalent with at least 2nd division
MS/MPhil Urdu MS/MPhil Urdu 2 Years 16 Years relevant education / level 6, from HEC recognize institute (Passed the previous degree with a cumulative GPA score of 2.5/4.0 (under a semester system) or a second class Master’s degree (earned under annual system)).
GAT General (Category B) with at least 50 % score

Research Facilities

1) Institute of Southern Punjab has a fully equipped research library where a vast range of books are available for the students.

2) Southern Scholar magazine published every quarter.

3) Institute of Southern Punjab has an advanced computer lab through which students can do in-depth research.

M.A Program

Admission Criteria

The candidates who have studied Urdu Elective/ Optional will be given weightage of 40% marks in the aggregate. The detail of seats is managed through centralized admission committee

Course Detail:

The duration of the course will be 2 years, (60 credit hours). Scheme of study is available with the department

M. Phil Program

Admission Criteria

The detail of seats is managed through centralized admission committee.

Course Detail:

The duration of course will be 2-years, (30 credit hours). Students after completing 24 credit hours will be given choices between the two

1) Thesis (6 credit hour)

2) 2 papers (6 credit hour)
